Cliffview Dairy: Behind The Scenes Of A Local Family Run Farm

Recently, I had the chance to tour Cliffview Dairy in Enderby, a family-run dairy farm that's been operating in the Shuswap/North Okanagan for decades. Watching how the farm runs day-to-day — and hearing directly from the family behind it — was a good reminder of the work that goes into keeping local agriculture going.
A Family Farm, Generations in the Making
Cliffview Dairy is run by the Bremer family, who have built the operation over the years through hands-on, generational work. Farms like this are the backbone of communities like Enderby — not just producing food, but keeping local economies and traditions alive.
The Real Costs of Farming Today
Behind the scenes, farms like Cliffview are dealing with real financial pressure — rising costs, tight margins, and no shortage of unpredictability. On top of that, water access is a growing concern for farmers across the province, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already demanding job.
95% of Their Milk Leaves the Valley
One number that stuck with me: 95% of the milk produced at Cliffview has to be shipped to the Fraser Valley for processing. That's a long haul for a perishable product, and it says a lot about how centralized dairy processing has become in BC — leaving Interior farms dependent on distant infrastructure just to get their product to market.
Turning Waste Into a Resource
One of the most impressive things on the tour was seeing how Cliffview is investing in sustainability. They're building a new facility to break manure down into three separate, reusable products — cutting waste and putting it back to work on the farm.
Farms like Cliffview Dairy are doing a lot with limited resources, and it's worth understanding what they're up against.
