Fish and Farms Both Matter

This summer, the province put a temporary halt on irrigation water from the Salmon River to protect Chinook salmon during a period of very low streamflow. I understand why — the fish are struggling, and something had to give. But I also know what this order means for the ranchers and farmers who rely on that water, many of whom are now facing real costs just to keep their operations going.

This isn't a new problem. We've seen versions of this same scramble before, and every time, it's the people working the land who end up carrying the weight of it.

I sat down with Rebel News to talk about what this means for our local ranchers, and why I believe we need a real long-term plan for water in this region — not another emergency shutoff each summer.
