Supporting O'Keefe Ranch

Historic O’Keefe Ranch is not only a treasured heritage site in our region, but also a working ranch that continues to preserve important agricultural traditions. One of the most recent additions to the ranch is Odie, a 20-month-old Maremma/Kangal cross who was brought in to protect the goat herd after several losses to coyotes. Since Odie’s arrival, not a single goat has been lost to predation, a testament to his instincts and the important role guardian dogs play in rural and agricultural settings.

Odie has done exactly what he was brought to the Ranch to do. Now, the focus is on ensuring his long-term health and wellbeing. Neutering will help eliminate the risk of testicular cancer, reduce hormonal behavioural issues, and support a longer, healthier life for him. Like many heritage and non-profit organizations, Historic O’Keefe Ranch faces ongoing financial challenges, particularly during the winter off-season, which makes covering unexpected veterinary costs more difficult.

I have been involved with Historic O’Keefe Ranch for some time and currently sit on its board. I have seen firsthand the dedication of staff, volunteers, and supporters who work tirelessly to preserve this important piece of our local history. I am grateful that the Okanagan Humane Society has partnered with the Ranch to help raise funds specifically for Odie’s surgery.

Those who wish to support Odie can donate directly through the Okanagan Humane Society and will receive an immediate tax receipt. To ensure donations are directed toward Odie’s surgery, please include Case 25-1889PA in the “Write a private message to us” field on the donation form.

Donations can be made here:https://okanaganhumanesociety.com/donate

Supporting Odie is a small but meaningful way to care for an animal that has already given so much back to our community.
