Stein Lumber: Success in Tough Times

BC’s wood industry has been hit hard—mills closing, jobs disappearing, and uncertainty hanging over entire communities. But here in Salmon Arm, there’s a success story worth telling.
Local lumber remanufacturing plant, STEIN LUMBER, is more than just surviving, even amidst tightened conservation, NDP legislative constraints, and timber harvests 40% below the annual allowable cut.
As a lumber remanufacturing plant, what makes STEIN LUMBER unique and desirable is how ready for market their materials are. Instead of cutting raw logs (like at a sawmill) they take finished and rough cut lumber and turn them into a high-value finished product like decking or indoor flooring.

"Whether you are looking for standard dimensions and grades or a special size and quality, we supply you with what you need."
This added value means they can sell into a wider range of markets and adapt more quickly to changing demand.
While other communities have seen entire mill operations shut down in previous years and countless people negatively impacted by the downturn in BC Forest industry, STEIN LUMBER is a symbol of resilience and a source for community pride. They provide employment for 20+ people at their Salmon Arm facility and support the local market by supplying wood for many of the houses and cabins that were lost to forest fires in the past few years.
We still have a lot of work to do in pushing the current government to prioritize the forest industry in B.C. so we can see this integral sector in our province thriving once again and continuing to be a global leader in sustainable lumber harvesting. In the meantime, we are proud of business' like Stein and the part they play in our community and the forest sector as a whole.
We encourage you to checkout their website and reach out if you think they could help you with your needs for your next project. https://www.steinlumber.com/
