With spring fast approaching, many of us are looking forward to warmer days and the many community events we enjoy each year across the Shuswap. As we look ahead, I wanted to provide an MLA update to highlight what's upcoming and a few local issues that have are being addressed.
In the months ahead, I plan to hold town halls throughout the riding to listen directly to your concerns and priorities. With the real possibility of an election on the horizon, hearing from residents is more important than ever. I encourage you to stay connected through facebook, instagram, & here on our constituency website for information relevant to our region and when/where the town halls will take place.
We are living in challenging times. I recognize that the economic, social, and political pressures facing our communities have made this a particularly difficult period for many families, organizations, and local businesses. These challenges are complex and addressing them requires both persistence and realism.
Steady progress is being made on several long-standing local issues.
That said, steady progress is being made on several long-standing local issues. At Newsome Creek in Sorrento, erosion concerns that have affected residents for years are finally moving toward resolution, with a recent tender issued and work now underway. The Spa Hills Compost facility continues to be closely monitored to ensure full compliance, reflecting the importance many local residents have placed on strong environmental and operational oversight. An unauthorized residential encampment in Salmon Arm is also being addressed, with local partners working together to respond responsibly while balancing public safety, community impacts, and compassion.
I recently met with local transportation representatives and Area Road Maintenance Managers to discuss current and future infrastructure projects, as well as ongoing deficiencies across the Shuswap. These discussions focused on improving road conditions, prioritizing safety, and moving forward long-term planning for our rural transportation network.
Now that the Legislature is back in session, I—along with our Opposition caucus—will be vocal advocates for addressing the many issues affecting both our province and our region. My priorities include:
Protecting Private Land Rights & Public Access
Addressing Healthcare Inefficiencies
Much-needed Hospital and Healthcare Upgrades
Advancing Policies that strengthen local & provicnical Economies
Improving Affordability for Families & Small Businesses.
I remain optimistic that we can hold the government to account and restore common sense in a way that protects equal rights, personal freedoms, addresses crime, and provides responsible environmental stewardship.
Sincerely,
David L. Williams
MLA Salmon Arm-Shuswap
