It was a joyful day in Enderby on Friday, July 18, as I joined a number of community members to celebrate the unveiling of a new public art sculpture that’s already bringing colour and inspiration to the city.

The striking piece, Mother Earth, was created by local Indigenous artist Hop You and is the first installment of the City of Enderby’s new Public Art Program. The program aims to celebrate artistic excellence while enhancing public spaces—and Friday’s event did exactly that.
Positioned on the east side of Highway 97A, right next to Enderby City Hall, Mother Earth stands as a proud symbol of the power of community and creativity.
“We are thrilled to award the inaugural sculpture lease (one year) to local artist Hop You for his stunning work, Mother Earth,” the City of Enderby shared in a recent release. The sculpture’s presence not only beautifies a high-traffic area, but also highlights the incredible talent that exists within our region.
"I'm honoured to be here. Adding artistry and more to the community is great. We want to thank Hop You for his commitment and dedication to making Enderby a better place. This is inspirational and we could all use more inspiration. I'm impressed. I can only draw stick people." - MLA David Williams
Initiatives like this are essential to building vibrant communities and recognizing the value of local artists. I want to commend the City of Enderby and everyone involved for launching a program that uplifts culture, honours Indigenous voices, and inspires all who pass by.

Let’s keep celebrating the people and projects that make the Shuswap a more beautiful place to call home. This local art project is a big win for everyone.
